What is withdrawal?
A man who performs withdrawal will pull his penis out of the vagina before ejaculation, or the moment when semen spurts out of his penis. Withdrawal is known as the pull out method or coitus interruptus.
How does withdrawal work?
Withdrawal works by keeping sperm out of the vagina. pregnancy cannot happen if there is no sperm present.
How effective is this method?
Of every 100 women whose partners use withdrawal, four will become pregnant each year if they always do it correctly. Twenty-seven out of every 100 women will become pregnant a year using the withdrawal method if they do not always do it correctly.
What are the advantages of using this method?

- It can be used to prevent pregnancy when no other method is available.
- There are no medical or hormonal side effects.
What are the disadvantages of using this method?
- Requires great self-control, experience and trust. It is not for men who ejaculate prematurely.
- It is not for men who don't know when to pull out.
- It is not recommended for teens and sexually inexperienced men.
- Withdrawal does not protect against HIV or other sexually transmitted infections.
