October is National Family Sexuality Education Month!
Parents are the most important source of sexuality-related information for their children.
Many parents find talking about sexuality with their kids to be tough. It may be somewhat embarrassing or anxiety-provoking for parents. Other parents find it difficult because they feel they don't have the facts. Some parents know what they'd like to say, but they don't know how to make the conversation age-appropriate.
If any of these situations sound familiar, let us help you be better informed and more prepared to discuss sexuality issues with your child! Each day, this website will post new talking tips that can help you start a conversation with the youth you know!
Sometimes we miss "teachable moments" to talk to our kids about sexuality, so it's helpful to have a gentle reminder. The Get Real, Indiana! coalition is pleased to provide you with an effective way to promote conversation at home, work, school or any other place you might encounter young people!

Talking tip!
Today marks the end of National Family Sexuality Education Month, but don’t let it mark the end of your conversations with your child about sexuality issues.
Young people need regular reminders about important sexual health issues like disease prevention, pregnancy prevention, peer pressure and relationships. Check in with your kids on a regular basis to see if they have any questions and keep the lines of communication open. |
