What Can a Parent Do?

As a parent, the idea that your child may be exposed to messages you are not comfortable with or do not agree with can be frustrating. Our current social climate is full of sexuality related messages and images that aren’t appropriate for all age groups.

The pervasiveness of these messages make it extremely important that you take time to talk to your kids about what they think about some of the things they see and hear. Take the time to engage your older children in some critical thinking about what they see and hear. Help them understand the fact that they don’t have to do everything they think is cool and would make them popular with their peers.

Young people really do prefer to hear about sexuality from their parents. They want to know what you think and they want to be able to have an open, honest conversation with you about things that are important in their lives. Take time today to start that conversation you’ve been meaning to have with your kids. You’ll be glad you did!
