News and Stories: Planned Parenthood of Indiana Drops Price of Flu Shots to $10; 19 Health Centers Offering Vaccinations
Planned Parenthood of Indiana (PPIN) announced today that it has dropped the price of its influenza vaccines to just $10, while supplies last.
The flu shots are available at the following 19 PPIN health centers: Avon, Bloomington, Columbus, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis-Castleton, Indianapolis-Eastside, Indianapolis-Midtown, Indianapolis-Southside, Hammond, Lafayette, Madison, Merrillville, Mishawaka, Muncie, Richmond, Terre Haute, Valparaiso and Warsaw.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends annual vaccinations for everyone age six months or older. According to the CDC, the current vaccine protects against the H1N1 virus that caused so much illness last season, as well as two other influenza viruses (an H3N2 virus and an influenza B virus).
The Indiana State Department of Health has reported the first Indiana flu death of the 2010-2011 season, which will likely peak in January or February, but can also last through May.
"The flu season is in full swing right now, so this is a very good time to get yourself vaccinated," said PPIN President and CEO Betty Cockrum. "We want to help our patients stay healthy. Knowing that we're often the only medical providers some of them will see, it's important that we have a variety of affordable services at each of our health centers."
Vaccinations at the PPIN health centers are only available to people 12 and older and appointments must be made in advance.
