News and Stories: Planned Parenthood of Indiana to Relocate Gary Health Center
Planned Parenthood of Indiana (PPIN), the state's leading provider of preventive reproductive health care, is pleased to announce that its Gary health center is moving to a new location. The health center will be closed on Tuesday, March 29, for the move and will reopen on Wednesday, March 30, at 1124 Broadway.
"The new health center has more space and an updated look to provide patients with a more comfortable experience," said Gary Health Center Manager Maritza Torres. "When we were looking for a new health center home, we were gratified by the outpouring of support from the Gary community urging us to stay in the city limits. We're happy to say we found a great new location that's still in Gary!"
During fiscal year 2010, the Gary health center saw 2,637 patients and provided important services such as 1,196 Pap tests for cervical cancer, testing and treatment for STDs for women and men, pregnancy tests, breast exams and all forms of birth control. Ninety-eight percent of the Gary center's patients are at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty guideline.
Hours of service will remain unchanged: Monday, Tuesday and Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Wednesday 9:30 – 5 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. The phone number for the Gary health center will still be (219) 883-0411.
