News and Stories: Hoosiers Ask “What can I do?”
Supporters Plan Rallies Across the State
Planned Parenthood of Indiana (PPIN) has been overwhelmed by the requests from Hoosiers asking what they can do to help protect PPIN’s funding. As a result, rallies are being scheduled around the state. Supporters want to make it clear to Governor Daniels that they don’t want as many as 22,000 PPIN patients to lose access to Pap tests, breast exams, birth control and STD testing and treatment. Rallies will take place in Bedford, Bloomington, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Lafayette, Mishawaka, Muncie and Seymour. (See schedule below)
The Indiana General Assembly passed HB 1210 this week and it will soon be on the governor’s desk for him to consider whether to veto it, sign it into law or let it become law without his signature. The organization receives nearly $3 million annually in federal family planning and Medicaid funds. Legislators intend the bill to cut off all of the money, which entirely funds preventive health care for low-income Hoosiers.
New radio ads are also running in the Indianapolis market that focus on the good work Planned Parenthood does and urges supporters to contact the governor and ask him to veto HB 1210. You can hear the ad here: http://www.box.net/shared/metf5z441x. The media buy will last until May 3 on five central Indiana radio stations. The ads are being paid for by Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
