Teen Success

Teen Success was founded to address the very serious issue of second pregnancies among teens.

Teen Success is a program designed to support teenage girls who are currently pregnant or who are already parents. This program helps participants to recognize the benefits and rewards of planning for the future.

Teen Success provides encouragement for young mothers to delay another pregnancy until reaching adulthood and their educational goals.

Through weekly support group meetings, Teen Success provides opportunities for teen mothers to meet with other teen mothers, share the joys and challenges of parenting, discuss relationship building and learn skills for planning a positive future.

Teen Success members have a repeat pregnancy rate of 4 percent compared to the national average of 20 percent or greater.

For the girls who participate, Teen Success means:

Self esteem: Feeling good about who you are
Understanding: Being involved with others
Confidence: Increasing confidence
Commitment: Recognizing the value of setting goals and reaching them
Education: Learning about the benefits of being independent and responsible
Self respect: Gaining respect for yourself and nurturing it in your child
Sexuality: Learning more about sexuality, sexually transmitted diseases, values and choices

Female teens are eligible if they are:

  • 18 years of age or younger
  • Currently pregnant or a parent
  • Currently enrolled in, or will re-enroll, in school/GED program
  • Plan to delay another pregnancy until they complete high school, vocational school or a GED
  • Willing and able to attend a weekly meeting in central Indianapolis
  • Want to obtain skills and information for planning a positive future
